The Atheist Muslim:A Journey from Religion to Reason Ali A. Rizvi
Growing up in a strict Muslim community in London, Alom Shaha learnt that religion was not to be questioned. Reciting the Qur´an without understanding what it meant was simply part of life; so was obeying the imam and enduring beatings when he failed to attend the local mosque. Shaha was more drawn to science, and as a teen, he lived between two worlds: the home controlled by his authoritarian father, and a school alive with books and ideas. In this charming blend of memoir, philosophy, and science, Shaha explores the questions about faith and the afterlife that we all ponder. This powerful, insightful handbook is a must for anyone who thinks about what they should believe and how they should live. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Alom Shaha. On one side of the argument is a collection of godless academics with doctorates from the finest universities in England, France, and the United States. On the other is Irrational Atheist author Vox Day, armed with nothing more than historical and statistical facts. Presenting a compelling argument (but not for the side one might expect), Day strips away the pseudo-scientific pretentions of New Atheism with his intelligent application of logic, history, military science, political economy, and well-documented research. The arguments of Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, Daniel Dennett, and Michel Onfray are all methodically exposed and discredited as Day provides extensive evidence proving, among other things, that: More than 93 percent of all the wars in human history had no relation to religion The Spanish Inquisition had no jurisdiction over professing Jews, Muslims, or atheists, and executed fewer people on an annual basis than the state of Texas Atheists are almost four times more likely to be imprisoned than Christians ´´Red´´ state crime is primarily in ´´blue´´ counties Sexually abused girls are 55 times more likely to commit suicide than girls raised Catholic In the twentieth century, atheistic regimes killed three times more people in peacetime than those killed in all the wars and individual crimes combined. The Irrational Atheist provides the rational thinker with empirical proof that atheism´s claims against religion are unfounded in logic, fact, and science. 1. Language: English. Okay, let´s get one thing straight. I didn´t write this book to de-convert anyone. Honest. So, if you´re a devout Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Mormon, Catholic, Scientologist, or whatever, you just keep on doing what you´re doing. No offense, but, as long as you´re a good person who doesn´t try to shove your beliefs down my throat or protest at military funerals, I really couldn´t give a rodent´s rectum about your spirituality. It´s none of my business. Go to church. Don´t eat pork. Worship Ganesh. Pray your rosary. Jump on couches and pretend you´re on Oprah? Whatever. If it keeps you from going on a multi-state killing spree armed with grenades and an Uzi, knock yourself out! For your information, I wrote this book, well, for your information. That´s it. Over the years I´ve been asked more and more how I went from being a Catholic to a teen atheist to a rabid Bible thumper (with a mullet!) to a (somewhat) mild-mannered atheist and I´ve always said, ´´It´s a really long story. I´ll write a book about it someday. I promise´´. Now, after repeating this oath a bazillion or two times, frankly, I´m tired of stalling. So, instead of procrastinating more or becoming rude to (mostly) well-meaning folks who are just curious, here you go. I done wrote a book about it. So if this book offends you, don´t launch a campaign to re-convert me. Don´t carpet bomb me with hellfire and brimstone emails. If you´re really pissed off, I´m so nice I´ll give you a list of names and home addresses of all the people who´ve pestered me for the story contained in this audiobook. So go bother them! It´s their fault this book exists, not mine! Incidentally, if you feel so inclined, you can pray for me. That´s cool. Whatever lights your altar candles, partner. That´s none of my business either. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Stephen Hines. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/068469/bk_acx0_068469_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.
Religious Talk Online:The Evangelical Discourse of Muslims Christians and Atheists Stephen Pihlaja
Gott, oh Gott...
For most of American history, the conventional wisdom was that religion was too private a matter to ask a political candidate about. But in a political landscape in which we will see Muslims, atheists, Mormons, Buddhists, and Christians of all stripes running for high office, we cannot afford to avoid religious questions. It´s within American voters´ rights to know what their candidates believe about God and religion, because those beliefs shape policy and thus action. In both small and significant ways, a candidate´s religious views (or lack thereof) define political leadership. And the time for skirting the question or giving vague answers is over. In this rousing call to action, Stephen Mansfield shows listeners: What religion will mean in the 2016 presidential race How the media, both left and right, get religion wrong The reasons the faith of candidates such as JFK, Mitt Romney, and Barack Obama caused issues with both the electorate and even their own advisors How to ask the right questions to get honest answers What giving candidates a ´´religious pass´´ can cost the country How religion in American politics impacts America´s role in the world And more Frustrated and confused voters across the country and on both sides of the aisle will find here a balanced and essential guidebook to actively and intelligently participating in America´s political system. 1.
